Ministry of Economic Affairs launches campaign to strengthen business resilience

Published
The Ministry of Economic Affairs has launched the campaign “Protect What Makes You Strong”, aimed at improving the economic resilience of Dutch businesses.

At the center of the initiative is the platform Maak je bedrijf weerbaar (“Make your business resilient”), which provides companies with practical tools to better safeguard their knowledge, technology, and strategic assets.

The campaign comes at a time when geopolitical tensions are increasingly influencing the economic landscape. Businesses (particularly innovative and fast-growing ones) face rising risks such as intellectual property theft, cyber threats, and unwanted foreign interference. These challenges not only affect individual companies but also have broader implications for national security and the Netherlands’ competitive position.

From awareness to action

The initiative translates these complex risks into clear, actionable steps. Through the platform, entrepreneurs are encouraged to identify their most valuable assets, assess vulnerabilities, and implement protective measures. The message is straightforward: economic security is no longer optional, it is a core part of responsible business operations.

Podcast brings real-world insights

A key component of the campaign is the podcast series “Protect What Makes You Strong”, which explores real-world dilemmas faced by entrepreneurs. Across multiple episodes, experts discuss topics such as intellectual property, cybersecurity, and managing strategic partnerships, offering concrete guidance and practical examples.

One of the featured speakers is Freek Smoes, who contributes insights based on his work within the startup ecosystem at YES!Delft. Drawing on his experience with startups and scale-ups, he highlights how rapidly growing companies can navigate risks related to investment, collaboration, and knowledge protection.
