SecFund invests in advanced composite manufacturer Arceon

Published
Advanced composite manufacturer Arceon receives an investment from SecFund and Tenzing Alpha.

The Delft-based company Arceon produces the carbon composite Carbeon for rocket and satellite systems. With Carbeon, space-system manufacturers can improve system performance and shorten delivery times. Carbeon is lighter, stronger, and more resistant to extreme temperatures. Thanks to an intelligent production process, in which the material is created in a single step rather than through multiple cycles, and Arceon’s use of unique silicon-infiltration techniques, Carbeon can also be delivered more quickly. This enables manufacturers to accelerate development of the next generation of space systems, such as hypersonic rockets and more effective satellites.

This investment enables Arceon to expand its production capacity and take the step toward commercial scaling,”
Rahul Shirke, CEO of Arceon

International Space Station (ISS)

Arceon was founded in 2018 by a team with extensive experience in composites and space technology. Since then, the material has been rigorously tested multiple times by renowned research institutions and space organizations such as ESA, including under extreme conditions such as a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The company is now transitioning from R&D to commercial scale-up.

Arceon represents the top tier of material science and enables new products in aerospace and defence. We are pleased to support them in scaling up their production capacity and pursuing their international ambitions,” Gerard van Swieten, Partner at Tenzing Alpha

Dual use

SecFund focuses on dual-use companies, those developing products or services that can be applied in both civilian and defence sectors. Carbeon is suitable for both civil space applications and defence systems, such as satellites, rockets, and hypersonic platforms. This broad applicability makes the technology strategically important for Europe. The investment in Arceon follows an early-stage financing round from UNIIQ.

Arceon operates in a sector where performance and delivery time make all the difference. We are investing in Arceon because Carbeon represents a major step forward for aerospace and defence systems in the EU,” Max Straatman, Investment Manager, InnovationQuarter

The SecFund is a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the regional development agencies (ROMs) united under ROM-Nederland.
