Continuous glucose meters: time savers in first-line diabetes care through smart software

Co-Medic and Sensible Health launched a project to make diabetes management smarter and more efficient

Delft, Netherlands, January 29, 2025 – Co-Medic, an innovative company from Antwerp that helps general practitioners efficiently and effectively utilize data to make chronic disease care more effective and less time-consuming, has launched a project with Sensible Healthcare Systems, a Dutch company that produces imperceptible and cost-effective biosensors.

Through this collaboration, the partners aim to allow general practitioners to seamlessly integrate Sensible’s continuous glucose monitor (CGM) data into the Co-Medic platform and therewith their own platforms of choice—without added administrative work. The system automatically combines sensor data with other relevant healthcare information to create a clear diabetes overview. This allows doctors to quickly identify trends and provide targeted advice on how lifestyle choices affect blood sugar levels.

With more than 500 million diabetes patients worldwide—1 in 11 adults—and an annual increase of 10 million new patients [source: IDF Diabetes Atlas 2021], the timing of this innovation is crucial. Sensible’s technology stands out due to its use of a microneedle that is 40 times smaller than conventional sensors, while its open data architecture enables cost-free integration with any desired treatment option. This makes it completely unnoticeable during wear, and   This combination of innovative sensor technology and intelligent data analysis allows general practitioners to efficiently deliver population-based and preventive diabetes care.

On behalf of Co-Medic, Max van de Ven says: “With this collaboration, we enable structured data from external tools to be integrated into general practices. The CGM data is combined with other available data from several sources into a comprehensive diabetes care overview.

Representing the Sensible team, Tim Bruines emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: “General practitioners are essential in the transition to preventive care. We are thrilled to work with Co-Medic to develop tools that prioritize their needs and support this transition.”

Combining Co-Medic’s smart data integration with Sensible’s cutting-edge sensor technology marks a significant step toward smarter, more efficient diabetes management.

About Co-Medic

Co-Medic provides general practices with a digital platform that enhances the efficiency of organizing and coordinating care for their patient population. The platform structures and encodes medical data from various sources, enabling general practitioners to quickly identify and monitor at-risk patients and initiate preventive care actions. With this innovative approach, Co-Medic supports primary care while reducing the administrative burden on healthcare providers.

About Sensible Healthcare Systems

Founded in 2019 by a diverse team of experienced researchers, technical experts from TU Delft and KTH Stockholm, and seasoned entrepreneurs, Sensible Healthcare Systems was born from the vision that currently emerging continuous glucose monitoring sensors have fundamental issues (such as their high cost, invasiveness, and closed data architecture) that make them unsuitable for large-scale population applications—despite their true potential lying precisely in that area.
