Worldwide, almost 90 billion dollars is wasted every year on mistakes in designing and the building process. Xinaps’ founder and CEO Frank Schuyer believes many of these mistakes come from not checking the data correctly. Xinaps’ application Verifi3D can make the design process more efficient and prevent these kinds of mistakes from being made.
Assignment
Frank started his journey in the AEC industry around 2009 when he got an assignment from a software company in Delft that wanted to launch a solution that supported housing corporations standardize their Energy performance labels. A couple of years later, Frank joined forces with this company again and after several brainstorming sessions and customer feedback sessions, a proof of concept was born. Frank decided to buy out the team and this was the start of Xinaps.
Xinaps started with a few relatively successful plugin applications for Autodesk Revit. These design add-ons could, for instance, check for wheelchair accessibility and fire safety regulations. Soon, Frank realized he had to develop something that would also work in a cloud environment. So he and his team decided to build Verifi3D, a browser-based tool that checks open and closed data standards from building modeling programs to avoid mistakes or data inconsistencies.
Our main strength is the support of multiple file formats, an advanced rule engine, and user-friendliness. There are many different people involved in the design- and building process, with various backgrounds. The software offers a workflow everyone can use without a five-day training program.”
Unique combination
Due to the unique combination of the application, and the integrations with many software and cloud programs, Xinaps quickly developed a steady base of customers. The companies they competed with didn’t manage to get their cloud applications running, so Xinaps was able to start scaling. This ultimately led to an offer from the Finnish company Solibri, a daughter corporation of Nemetschek, to acquire Xinaps.

Power of incubators
Frank is convinced this takeover also shows the added value of incubators like YES!Delft, which they joined only a few months after Xinaps was founded. According to him, incubators are a key necessity in developing innovative products that corporate companies can’t manage. Even though he was already an experienced entrepreneur, he found the guidance of YES!Delft to be crucial, especially in bringing their product to market.
In the last couple of weeks, Frank softlanded his team, and Solibri has rebranded and brought the product back onto the market. Now under Solibri’s guidance, the product is poised to make an even greater impact in the AEC industry.
