Thanks to an investment from Green Impact Investing, the manufacturer of plug-and-play solar panels, Supersola, is making a restart. In addition to selling its solar panels with a standard plug, the company will now also offer them for rent.
Previously, Supersola’s solar panels were only available for purchase. With this new business model—where plug-in solar panels can be both sold and rented—the company hopes to reach a larger market and remove uncertainty for potential customers.

The new shareholders, Green Impact Investing—the investment firm founded by the original founders of Greenchoice, established in September—are well-known players in the solar energy sector.
In November, the bankruptcy trustee announced that a restart was being investigated, following the company’s bankruptcy declaration in October.

Rental Proposition
Founder Julius Smith will step aside and has announced that he is pursuing a new challenge outside of Supersola. Despite all the challenges, he is pleased that his mission is being continued by this particular party. “We also wanted to make sustainable energy widely accessible. If every household installs two panels, that would add 16 million new solar panels. This would instantly double energy generation and help distribute the load on the power grid.”
Meanwhile, the founders of Green Impact Investing have expressed their enthusiasm for the restart:
