Inspecting the middle ear can often be a challenging task because all relevant structures are hidden behind the surface of the eardrum. This limitation hinders ear specialists in clarifying why the hearing bones do not work properly and why the hearing outcomes after surgery are not always optimal.
Our easy-to-use handheld otoscope, based on optical coherence tomography (OCT), solves this very problem, and enables ear specialists to examine the middle ear beyond the surface of the ear drum in real time. For the first time, ear specialists can measure the mobility of each hearing bone separately helping them to enhance diagnostics, pre-operative planning, and post-operative evaluation.
